Chapter 1790

Sapaeryeon is invading! (5)

ROTMHS Glossary || About page

β€œPush forward!”

β€œWe’ve seized the advantage. Drive them back in one go!”

His ears rang with the shouts echoing from all directions. But compared to the surging waves of energy, mere sounds were nothing. Under the aura emitted by Sapaeryeon’s warriors, Baek Cheon felt as if his skin was being torn apart.

β€œAh…”

Thud!

Baek Cheon, struck by someone pushing off the ground behind him, fell flat on the spot. However, the person who had shoved his shoulder didn’t even glance at him and dashed forward. He seemed unaware that he had even pushed Baek Cheon.

β€œUgh.”

With stiff hands, Baek Cheon barely pushed himself up and looked ahead with a devastation in his heart.

β€˜So this is how it is.’

Those who block and those who charge. People gathered, forming waves and crashing into each other. In the face of such an immense flow, Baek Cheon was nothing more than a speck of dust.

β€˜This is what war looks like from behind…’

Until now, Baek Cheon had always been at the forefront. Stepping out first, he led those who followed. So he didn’t know what war looked like while watching from behind.

Perhaps, without realizing it himself, a sense of superiority had secretly hidden within him.

Believing that fighting at the front lines meant enduring greater pain, he thought he had the right to lead others.

But only now, having become merely a crippled warrior from someone who led the battlefield, could he painfully realize.

The horrors of war experienced by those who can’t decide anything on their own. How devastating and terrifying a war that merely sweeps them up and consumes them is to such people.

However, there was no time to be lost in sentiment. He had something he had to do.

Baek Cheon gathered strength in his legs and moved forward.

β€˜I must stop it!’

He doesn’t have the power to stop this war. He doesn’t have the ability to change the course of the battle. Perhaps once he had such power, but the current Baek Cheon had lost it all.

However, there was still something he could do.

It wasn’t easy pushing through the frenzied warriors, but even so, Baek Cheon pressed forward, extending his hand forward.

“Wait!”

He resisted those who shoved past him, rushing ahead like moths to a flame. With his injured arm and his inner energy that kept faltering – it was all insufficient to stop them, but he had to try anyway.

“Get out of the way, you crippled bastard!”

At that moment, someone kicked Baek Cheon in the stomach, seeing him just as a nuisance.

“Ugh!”

A wheezing sound escaped from Baek Cheon’s mouth.

Even though it wasn’t an attack filled with malice, for the current Baek Cheon, the impact was significant enough to momentarily stop his breath.

However, instead of collapsing, Baek Cheon gritted his teeth and continued moving forward.

“Sect…”

Baek Cheon’s gaze was fixed on the back of one man. Even amidst the tumultuous, hellish chaos, this man still showed a cold, indifferent back. Perhaps a man who no longer possessed anything that could boil over.

“Sect Leader!”

Baek Cheon shouted towards him until his throat felt like it would burst.

His voice was likely drowned out by the surrounding noise, but perhaps his intent got through, as the man standing alone turned around.

From the masked man’s demeanor and gestures, not even a fragment of emotion could be felt. Baek Cheon opened his mouth.

“Sect Le…”

Jin Songwon waved his hand dismissively. Then, those who had been pushing Baek Cheon from both sides moved aside, and a narrow path opened up for him.

“Ugh!”

However, Baek Cheon couldn’t even walk all the way forward before collapsing where he was. Jin Songwon looked down at him with an expression full of disdain.

“How utterly foolish. You certainly had your chance.”

“Huff…”

Baek Cheon let out a ragged breath. Then, covering his mouth, he forced himself to stand up.

β€œRun away. There’s still a chance. As long as you’re alive, you can do anything.”

The calm voice was strangely out of place in this horrific battlefield. If one were to witness the very definition of a dissonance, it would be this scene.

Indeed, Jin Songwon seemed like someone who had already transcended life and death. Therefore, even if this place were hell, he wouldn’t mind.

But Baek Cheon couldn’t do that.

β€œDo you intend to continue?”

β€œβ€¦β€

β€œAre you really going to have your disciples attack Cheonumaeng? You know, don’t you!”

β€œIf you do that….”

β€œIf we do that?”

When Baek Cheon couldn’t bring himself to finish his sentence, Jin Songwon completed it for him.

β€œOh, that it will become irreversible?”

β€œβ€¦β€

β€œIt seems you’re mistaken, it’s been a long time since things became irreversible.”

β€œBut…….”

Jin Songwon’s eyes gleamed darkly.

β€œThis is as far as I indulge you.”

He approached Baek Cheon and grabbed him by the collar. Despite his truly cold demeanor, Jin Songwon hesitated for a moment before letting out a slight chuckle.

β€œTry to survive with whatever skill you have. If you can.”

He lifted Baek Cheon up and threw him far back. Lacking the strength to resist, Baek Cheon flew helplessly through the air and crashed into the ground.

Thud!

An impact as if his spine snapped surged through him.

β€œUgh…”

The world flashed black and white. Clutching the center of his chest, where a piercing pain like being stabbed by an awl spread, Baek Cheon struggled to stand up.

β€œUgh.”

He knew it himself. This was arrogance.

They had already thrown everything away. There was no way a few of his words could change their minds.

β€˜Even so… I have to do something.’

Even if it was nothing more than a meaningless struggle, he couldn’t just stand by and let the situation spiral further into a catastrophe.

Baek Cheon staggered and dragged his heavy legs once again.

❀ ❀ ❀

“Hmm.”

Jang Ilso gazed upon the unfolding scene as if savoring it.

People thrust their blades into one another, cursing each other with unprecedented hatred.

Curses, resentment, and madness overflowed. The most primal depths of humanity were laid bare here.

How many could leisurely watch such a scene?

Even delving into the history of ‘villains’ who have repeatedly quarreled, fought, killed, and pillaged, how many have orchestrated such a spectacle?

“Hahahahaha! Isn’t it amusing, Gamyeong-ah?”

Jang Ilso laughed as if watching an enjoyable performance while pointing ahead.

“Take a look.”

His eyes, which had shone wickedly while mocking everything in the world, were now immersed in deep pleasure.

“Even those things who acted superior, those things who pretended to be noble – they all end up the same.*”

They forget their cause and struggle desperately, focused solely on killing whoever approaches. The righteousness they shouted about so loudly is forgotten as they flee from their enemies. They push their comrades forward to avoid death. Some collapse to the ground, pale as ghosts, unable to overcome their fear.

Their true faces were truly unsightly.

“Hahahahaha! What a sight! Ahahahaha!”

While Jang Ilso laughed heartily, Ho Gamyeong’s expression hardened grimly.

The effect was better than expected. Even Ho Gamyeong hadn’t anticipated they would be pushed back so easily.

‘Some stratagem? No, they didn’t have time for that.’

A strategy only has meaning if it comes to fruition. No matter how great a strategy they devise, if the troops don’t move as intended, it’s just an empty echo.

Undoubtedly, Cheonumaeng didn’t have time to prepare in advance.

Then, are they truly collapsing like a sandcastle?

“Their military strength is…”

“Surely that can’t be the case, can it?”

Ho Gamyeong turned back to look at Jang Ilso. Jang Ilso was wearing a meaningful smile.

β€œHumans are treacherous beings. Yesterday and today are different, and their front and their back are not the same too.”

β€œIt’s hard to understand.”

β€œDo you think the righteousness they shout about is fake?”

β€œβ€¦β€

β€œNo, it’s probably genuine. There must be many who truly stand for that righteousness and greater cause. But there’s an implication hidden behind that righteousness. It is: β€˜as long as I can bear it.’”

Ho Gamyeong swallowed dryly.

β€˜In the end, they want to achieve their goal but don’t want to make sacrifices?’

In fact, there’s nothing to ridicule. Anyone would be the same. Even Ho Gamyeong himself couldn’t be sure he’s any different.

β€˜Then, there’s only one reason this is happening.’

Ho Gamyeong carefully observed the long, stretched-out front line.

β€˜The number of people who stepped forward to the front is excessively large.’

Among all those people, how many are truly prepared to risk their lives for the Central Plains?

If they were conscripted soldiers, it wouldn’t matter whether they had the resolve or not. After all, even in wars fought by ordinary soldiers, there aren’t that many who fight risking their lives for victory and glory.

However, there is one critical difference between a battlefield where armies fight and this battlefield here.

β€œβ€¦They can run away.”

Unconsciously, Ho Gamyeong muttered his thoughts aloud.

Soldiers have no way to escape. Even if they are terrified and look for an escape route, all they see are countless allies charging towards the enemy, and ahead are the enemies charging towards them. If they could break through those forces and escape, they wouldn’t have remained mere soldiers in the first place.

But martial artists are different. Martial artists can, if they wish, leap over the heads of the allies behind them and run away forever.

Unless there is a watchman, like in Saparyeon, who will stab through the hearts of those trying flee.

Of course, being martial artists, they wouldn’t hesitate from the start about whether to run away or not.

But just the mere possibility that they could escape is enough. The desire to live. The thought that they might win without having to risk their lives. Doubts about whether this death is truly worth it. Thus arises a momentary hesitation.

All of this combined will make the tips of their swords heavy. On this battlefield, that alone holds significant meaning.

And the one who created this is….

Ho Gamyeong’s gaze turned to Jang Ilso.

A full frontal charge seemed recklessly foolish at first glance. It looked like a mindless war of attrition with no tactics or strategy in sight. Even Ho Gamyeong harbored some doubts for a moment. But was this a move chosen after considering all that?

β€œRyeonju…”

β€œNo. No, Gamyeong-ah. Not yet.”

β€œβ€¦Yes?”

Jang Ilso smiled enigmatically.

β€œThey wouldn’t be just at this level. If that were the case, we wouldn’t have struggled all this time. You know that.”

β€œβ€¦β€

β€œHow they’ve been fighting. Why we haven’t been able to defeat them until now. It wasn’t because of those incompetent and insignificant things who can’t even manage their own subordinates and are floundering in confusion.”

Ho Gamyeong’s gaze turned towards the battlefield.

β€˜That’s right.’

He too had momentarily forgotten, intoxicated by the heat of the battle.

Who it was that led Cheonumaeng.

What exerts power on the battlefield is neither grand position nor great fame. In a battlefield where lives are staked, even orders become insignificant.

Just as Jang Ilso does, there’s only one that can lead people on that battlefield.

Kwaaaang!

A tremendous roar erupted from a corner of the frontline that had been pushing the enemy like raging waves. Jang Ilso’s eyes flashed sharply.

β€œThat’s it.”

He smiled brightly, as if it were a scene he had anticipated. Excitement surged in his pale eyes.

β€œIt seems I’ve gone mad, Gamyeong-ah. To find this entertaining.”

As his grin spread unnaturally, his face twisted like that of an evil spirit [μ•…κ·€]. His gaze was fixed precisely on one spot. Before he knew it, the vast battlefield had entirely vanished from his sight.

Jang Ilso’s entire vision was filled with just one person – his adversary.

β€œNow it begins. Yes, finally.”

As the swirling dust settled, a lone figure stood tall in that spot.

Black martial robes of Hwasan and the red plum blossom engraved on his chest.

β€œRight, Maehwa Geomgwi?”

It was Hwasan Geomhyeop Chung Myung. His cold gaze pierced through the crowd, landing precisely on Jang Ilso.

A hero and an antihero.**

The battlefield surrounding the two began to blaze fiercely.

*Jang Ilso always berates people, for example here he uses 것듀 (things) as a derogatory term to address people.

**μ˜μ›…κ³Ό νš¨μ›…. Where μ˜μ›…[θ‹±ι›„] and νš¨μ›…[ζ’Ÿι›„] both contain μ›…[ι›„], which means usually a man/male. 영[θ‹±] – outstanding/fine/excellent; while μ˜μ›… means β€œa hero.” 효[撟] – fierce i guess would fit in this context, while νš¨μ›… is β€œa formidable or ambitious person who may use unscrupulous means to achieve goals”; often translated as β€œvillain” or β€œantihero” with a nuance of a powerful but morally ambiguous figure. This is hard to properly express the meaning of this word in English, it can be β€œantihero/villain” in the leadership sense β€œan autocrat.” While the word 폭ꡰ(ζš΄ε›)(poggun) β€œtyrant” in a linguistic sense is not opposing μ˜μ›…[θ‹±ι›„], let’s leave this one as hero and antihero (also biga is not using 패ꡰ(paegun) here).

It feels like the good old Jang Ilso is back! I feel like we are getting the novel cover soon, this is so exciting.

Amazing, I wanted to see how the kids would become smarter and braver without relying on Chung Myung, but I guess his sense of duty is stronger.

Anyway, even with Kim Dokja, I didn’t get as annoyed as I did with Chung Myung, seeing him throw his life away like it’s nothing, or did he find a hermit seed to be able to fight?

Now to read another 50 episodes where random characters die, showing their fear or determination when they see Chung Myung, although maybe Biga already feels the spirit of Krampus and will show it in the next episode?

for dokja we knew he’ll go headfirst into suicide to protect the kids (and others obviously but I like the kids more😌) and COME BACK (this is the most important reason) but for chung myung, he does the same but if he dies we are not sure of another reincarnation and they’ll all be dead till then.

Also the group with dokja was CAPABLE (mentally too) but here we are seeing internal cracks before even the main external attack.

Kim dokja is like ilso but remove the viciousness and add depression and trauma…plus he knew the story ahead.

Chung myung is just tied from all sides, although that mental demon that caused internal injuries and then Dalai Lama coming to salt his injuries are to blame imo…but chung myung going headfirst into danger just to keep those undeserving brats (im pissed, fight me) safe and killing himself in process, that’s the worst part.

Just imagine if CM had killed jang ilso then Dalai Lama came to tell him ‘don’t kill that bitch’ but CM goes ‘sike my sword slipped out my hand, onto his neck… accidentally’ that would’ve been fun but obviously not.

anyways (like ellie said) buy tissues in wholesale to cry and a few plushies to punch ✊ stay strong we gonna get out of this mess (and kill a few characters in process).

I’m going to become a fan of Jang Ilso because of the courage I have for Chung Myung for continuing to not show a backup plan for his life and the uselessness of the righteous sects who don’t do anything relevant.”

Ah, don’t worry sister, since I’ve been a fan of Jang Ilso nothing saddens me, it’s fun to see my favorite character humiliating and predicting everything without getting hurt, uff, life is getting better.

I’m not sure how I feel ir what to think but hey HE’S FINALLY HERE! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ We’ve missed you Chung Myung 😭

I’m getting really tired of JIS, how does he predict everything, is that even possible?

Also, the more of Bark Cheon we get the more I see how messed up everyone else is around him was (even the retired Sect Leader). He’s Baek Cheon! The most righteous hero! Look at him thriving against all odds and they refused give him the cure because of their pettiness! They stripped him from his true Hwasan family because of their pettiness! In his lowest moment, Baek Cheon even took a moment to understand Chung Myung’s situation! Aaagh!

I needed to vent that out, excuse me πŸ˜…

I trust Chung Myung will step on, crumble and laugh all over of Jang Il So’s pretty plans 😎 (and I will laugh along him)

But just in case… just in case the angst is too much, I’ll have a tissue box ready too…

Thank you for the translation ☺️

“Even if a situation is difficult to predict 100%, you can imagine thousands of different outcomes and prepare a countermeasure. It’s all based on the fact that something may be impossible, but never zero.

Unlike the righteous sects that underestimated Jang Ilso and didn’t take the time to see how he worked, bringing unpleasant surprises along the way, Jang Ilso even infiltrated their sects, stealing their techniques, and most importantly, observing how they trained.

Although I’m still surprised by how naive Baeck Cheon is, if I were Jang Ilso, I’d have hostages from the Diacang sect. If they dare to be more than dogs, they die. Although maybe Biga has already been criticized for his cruelty, so this won’t be taken into account, haha.

Anyway, join Jang Ilso’s fan club, so we no longer suffer watching our heroes die like flies.”

All the suffering will make his (JIS) downfall much sweeter πŸ˜‰

Enjoy while you can!! Hehe 🀭

And it’s been said that CM’s ability to predict multiple outcomes it’s on par with JIS’s, so that’s not really the issue here. If CM wanted it, he could influence the righteous sects to make them do what he wants… The issue is his mental state, which is clouding the way he makes decisions and even his physical state. He’s somewhat re-living the other war and also he is incredibly afraid of repeating that past (full of unnecessary deaths, deaths of loved ones, facing a more powerful enemy like Magyo).

But if CM finds a tiny bit of balance, the tide will completely change. The ones who’ve been helping CM stay balanced have always been the 5 Swords… Who, after BC’s situation, became unbalanced, causing CM to crumbled without them. So whatever Jo Gul, Baek Cheon and Yoon Jung do in the near future, will make a difference. And I bet Iseol will jump right next to CM as soon as she can (if she’s forgiven him for not helping BC lol).

(I could keep talking about this story for ages, that’s just how rich and good it is)

Mm, the only way Jang Ilso will fall is by being forgiven.

For a serial killer, things like being hated and wishing for their end are irrelevant and even bring them pleasure, but forgiveness is something they don’t consider and if they do, they don’t expect to have it. So if they are forgiven, not being able to understand that reasoning from the other side makes them truly suffer, but who knows if psychology will be taken into account more in this work.

Chung Myung already influences the ten great sects and leads them in a way that allows members to have the freedom to make their own decisions, thus gaining more experience. Only when things are too out of control does he intervene.

“if she’s forgiven him for not helping BC lol”

Maybe because I don’t speak English is why I don’t understand this well? But are you blaming Chung Myung for not helping Baeck Cheon? Oh no honey, if that’s the case give me your discord or the social network you have because anyone who blames him for something stupid like that is my enemy.

I didn’t mean that they blame him, but they seem to be frustrated with Chung Myung, to some extent. Specifically… Yoon Jong was clearly pissed off with Chung Myung if you remember (way back though). Jo Geul that pleaded for him to do something in chapter 1739 when Bark Cheon was being expelled from Hwasan. And about Yoo Iseol I was thinking about her conversation with Chung Myung on chapter 1725 when she tells him “this isn’t like you”.

It makes me think there’s some tension there. But!! Maybe there’s no resentment between them at all and maybe I just misunderstood everything… We’ll see how it goes πŸ˜… See you in the next chapter!

BC is getting some for character growth, it really makes me love him so much how often we see him learn. Somehow even in his situation, it helps making my hope for his future stronger.

Jin Songwon still trying to make BC to leave to try to make him survive TT^TT Guy really doesn’t believe in his or his sect’s future. Someone gotta give him some hopeπŸ₯Ί

BC gets a “most stubborn person ever” award and I am so proud of him for that. He really take after the one that taught him :3

JI still beings a creep and wanting humanity to be as his image, for only the worst of it to be seen. Guy, get therapy already. Or a rock on your head. I like the latter option better.

… And there is his CM’s obsession too. Some things just don’t change.

I wonder what is CM’s current state. But now both him and BC are on the battlefield, at what seems to be totally different ends of it. Although they are both moving toward the center it seems.

BC stand for Cheongmyeong’s Bestie. Okay no I had to swap the initials for that one, it doesn’t really work. But I’m sure I will find something. Eventually.

Yeah, I don’t think Dalai Lama came to CM believing he could help him. My point of view is that DL didn’t see a way to help CM but came anyway because even if it’s not possible and could end up being meaningless in the end, he would still try either way. It’s kind of why I love DL so much. From his point of view, he knew that him coming would be for nothing, and yet he still did because it matters to him. πŸ₯Ί

…( I don’t wanna thing about the inner demons😭I wonder how worse it is for CM considering that for him it wasn’t a single scene in chapter 1755 but probably something that happened again and again and again, us reader was just lucky enough to not have to know everything about it(well, I write lucky, but I absolutely would have read every crumb Biga would share about CM’s inner demons…))

    Well,thank for the chapter

To be honest,it kinda funny since most people think jang ilso so powerful right now in the novel when in truth we be misled to think that way because jang ilso is trying to run away from the truth

That he can’t win the battle after this war, that why he didn’t even consider magyo at all in his calculations because he just inevitable going lose

CM probably going realize that truth and instead of being angry and hate on jang ilso,he will look at him with pity

that probably the last thing jang ilso want most right now:pity from his enemy when fighting in a war he have power on and that might snap the last reason in his head

So yeah, that probably going happened maybe, have good day
