Chapter 1806

If one must bear it. (6)

ROTMHS Glossary || About page

Boom! Boom!

Sword energies collided. Chung Myung’s plum blossoms crash into Jin Songwon’s sword energy and dissipated.

Before they could even fully bloom.

Blood trickled down, staining the hand gripping the sword. Chung Myung glanced at his own hand.

The blood will remain. And its stench will linger as well.

And so, once this battle is over, this hand will be stained a bit redder than it is now. No matter how much it’s washed, this won’t come out.

It’s nothing special. Nothing particularly significant.

Chung Myung knew. Even if others didn’t, he himself could not ignore these “stains.” Because, in the past, his hands, too, were stained in this very way.

The person standing before Chung Myung was looking at him with eyes filled with resentment and hatred.

It was truly a strange thing.

Chung Myung had seen such eyes countless times before, and he had ignored them just as many times. He had experienced hatred and resentment far worse than this.

However, he never grew numb to it. A gaze that once meant nothing to him had now become burdensome.

And so, he had no choice but to realize this once again.

No matter how cold one’s heart becomes, it can never turn into steel, and even withered emotions can never fully vanish.

Jin Songwon’s gaze, his screams, his emotions poured in. The consequences of Chung Myung’s decision now stood right before his eyes, like ‘debris’ that had yet to dissipate.

This debris clung tenaciously no matter how hard he tried to peel it away, like damp ash.

Yes, just like the smell of blood lingering on his fingertips.

“What are you spouting, as if you know anything!”

Jin Songwon shouted, as if he might cough up blood at any moment.

“You bastard! What do you even know!”

There were hundreds, thousands of things Chung Myung could say. He could talk until dawn and still have more to say.

But what use is any of that?

In the end, every word Chung Myung spoke carried meaning only for himself. Just one step away and it all becomes worthless – a meaningless excuse.

One corner of Chung Myung’s mouth curled up. There was one thing he agreed with among the words spoken by the Sect Leader of Diancang.

Yes. If you’re going to earn resentment, you might as well become a proper villain. It doesn’t matter if it amounts to nothing more than a shabby display of false malice.

Because there’s nothing more laughable than committing a sin and then sniveling about it.

Flash!

A powerful surge of sword energy poured towards him.

Chung Myung thought that it felt almost like tears. As if, with no tears left to shed from his eyes, this man was crying through his sword instead.

That sword energy grazed Chung Myung’s body.

This kind of pain was familiar enough to make him nauseous. Yet, what he felt from this wound was strangely different.

“You…..!“

Kwaaang!

Jin Songwon’s sword and Chung Myung’s sword clashed fiercely. That sword was filled with such deep resentment that it was almost overwhelming.

Of course.

‘Not being wrong’ doesn’t mean ‘being right’. Likewise, being right doesn’t guarantee you’ll be ‘understood’.

He lacked power. He lacked the ability to carry out his will. He even lacked the fierce resolve to protect what he had so proudly proclaimed.

So he had to realize that he, too, could not escape the idea that the weak inevitably reach a crossroads of choice.

The strong don’t need to choose, for they can do everything. But the weak will eventually face a moment where they must choose. Since they can’t do everything, they have to give something up.

And so, he abandoned it.

In order to give up what should never be given up, he compared things that were beyond comparison.

Dalai Lama flickered in Chung Myung’s mind. That face, like a stone Buddha [석불(石佛)]. And yet, the rosy face of a child who couldn’t hide a glimmer of sorrow.

‘A living Buddha.’

Chung Myung let out a laugh before he even realized it.

‘Thinking about it again, it really did seem like fraudulence.’

The Heavenly Demon had appeared again in this world. Feeling his presence, Chung Myung’s body was so shaken [경동(驚動)] that it triggered the onset of demonic possession [입마(入魔) – Glossary].

Yes, perhaps those words might have been the truth. But Chung Myung knew better than anyone that wasn’t the whole story.

The inner demon [심마[(心魔)] was already inside him. Ever since he abandoned what should have never been abandoned.

“Those words….!”

Boom!

Jin Songwon’s sword came flying at him once again at a terrifying speed. He had to block it. He could block it.

It wouldn’t have been too difficult.

Crunch.

But that sword pierced Chung Myung’s shoulder. His body kept refusing to follow his will.

“Could you say those words in front of the ones who died!”

Jin Songwon’s cry suddenly stirred up Chung Myung’s memories of the past. A certain day, now faded, when he had spoken those words to Chung Mun.

– Could you spout those words in front of the dead brats, too?

Chung Mun did not reply. He merely glanced at Chung Myung with a detached look, as if clad in armor.

‘Yes. That was how it was.’

Chung Mun was always strong.

Even if his martial arts were lacking, even if he commanded fewer forces, he was always the strong one.

And Chung Mun himself must have known that the entire world saw him as strong one and relied on him.

So Chung Mun could never say, ‘I am weak, and I have no choice but to make a decision.’ Even if that was the undeniable, perfect truth, and even if everyone already knew it, speaking those words aloud would have carried a different meaning.

Chung Mun had to choose and distinguish between those who should die and those who should not, those who must survive and those who need not. Among those who must not die, among those who had to survive.

Boom!

Chung Myung’s scattered sword energy lodged itself into Jin Songwon’s body. The vicious plum blossoms were gnawing at a man trembling in guilt, like the fangs of a venomous snake.

Jin Songwon’s blood mixed with the plum blossoms.

This sword spilled blood to bring forth the blossoms. This sword brought forth the blossoms to spill blood.

Swish!

Chung Myung’s sword once again slashed deeply into Jin Songwon’s arm. Almost simultaneously, Jin Songwon’s sword left a long wound on Chung Myung’s side.

Jin Songwon spat out his question.

“How is it?”

“…”

“What do you feel, seeing with your own eyes the results you created with your own hands?”

After asking, Jin Songwon turned his head. It wasn’t the sort of action one should take with an enemy right before him.

Truly reckless.

However, Jin Songwon did not seem afraid of losing his life to Chung Myung’s sudden attack. He even calmly stretched out his hand and pointed behind him.

“Do you see the hellscape you’ve created?”

Chung Myung let out a brief laugh. Did he want him to feel guilty?

Perhaps Chung Myung had known from the start who those masked individuals were.

Chung Myung sneered.

“So this is all you’ve got, venting your anger like this?”

“You…”

“Becoming the dog of those who brandished their swords against you, just to blame the ones you failed to protect. Is that the choice of someone so esteemed?”

He expected an immediate burst of fury. At the very least, some protest against the injustice.

But the moment Chung Myung finished speaking, Jin Songwon’s gaze unexpectedly darkened.

“Venting my anger, is it? Maybe so.”

“…”

“But what else can one do? If you have no power to resist, you have no choice but to kneel.”

A hollow laugh escaped him. Its deep self-mockery overlapped with a certain laugh Chung Myung once knew.

Chung Myung closed his eyes for a moment.

‘In the end, it’s no different.’

In the end, he, too, is just weak. He was forced onto a path he couldn’t choose.

And so, he ended up choosing a path he should never have taken.

At the end of that path, there must be some reason why he has to endure this kind of humiliation.

What could Chung Myung possibly do for someone like that?

Sssssrt.

Chung Myung’s sword scraped the ground.

“…..I’m sick of it.”

Spitting out the saliva that had gathered in his mouth, Chung Myung glared coldly at Jin Songwon.

“I’ve heard enough of your pathetic whining. Let’s end this now. You’ll feel better. Once you’re dead, it’s all over.”

At that, the corner of Jin Songwon’s mouth, hidden behind his mask, twitched briefly.

“With that body?”

Instead of saying ‘with those skills,’ he said ‘with that body.’ Crossing swords, he had noticed Chung Myung was far from being unscathed.

Jin Songwon glanced around.

“You must be in a hurry. Things don’t seem to be going your way.”

He was right. Tang Guak and Namgung Dowi, both on the brink of death, came into view.

“I’m curious. Will you make a choice again? If it were you, you could do it, right? No matter who else dies, you could order them to save those two first. Well? Will you commit the same act again?”

In response to Jin Songwon’s mocking question, Chung Myung said nothing. Jin Songwon let out a chuckle.

“You should at least be consistent. Then again, maybe you’ve been consistent all along.”

Yes, perhaps so. Maybe that was all Hwasan was worth to him. That was all there was to it. Whether it’s the truth or not doesn’t matter anymore. It’s laughable even to debate at this point.

Jin Songwon aimed his sword.

“Right. Let’s end it.”

It no longer matters who was right.

Now, the only thing that matters is that they cannot live under the same sky anymore. That each other’s very existence is unbearable. That’s all there is to it.

Jin Songwon gripped his sword tightly.

So he had to finish this quickly. Before that accursed gaze could shake his resolve. Before that deepening regret, growing stronger with every clash, could corrode his keen edge.

Jin Songwon and Chung Myung aimed their swords at each other. They suppressed the emotions that kept surging up, sharpening the killing intent in their blades instead.

They held their ground for a moment. And then…

Paaat.

Without anyone taking the lead, the two of them shot off towards each other.

Piiiiiing!

The Sun-Shooting Sword Technique simply pierces. No matter what it faces, even the sun in the sky, it pierces through in one unwavering strike.

Paaaaat.

Meanwhile, the Plum Blossom Sword Technique is a sword that blooms. Even if cut down, over and over, it ultimately blooms again.

Jin Songwon’s sword pierced through the plum blossoms Chung Myung had summoned. It penetrated them again and again, yet countless plum blossom sword energies continued to block his way.

But the very essence [진수(眞髓)] of The Sun-Shooting Sword Technique is to keep piercing a hundred, a thousand times more.

When he first took up the sword of Diancang, his master had told him:

– Even if you die pressing forward, do not hesitate. That is the sword of Diancang.

Yes. That was indeed what he said.

The razor-sharp sword energy gathered at the tip of the blade ripped apart the fragile petals. Although the petals left unscathed embedded themselves into his flesh and shards of torn sword energy again slashed his body, Jin Songwon pressed forward without a moment’s hesitation.

To pierce through is to advance. To move towards a single point is to remain unshaken.

In the face of that resolve, the delicate petals could not stand as a wall.

He finally pierced through all of it – thousands and tens of thousands of sword energies, a sea of petals, all torn apart.

And when he faced Chung Myung’s visage hidden behind them, Jin Songwon realized it.

No, he acknowledged it.

‘Me…?’

Chung Myung’s sword reached the tip of his blade.

Paaat.

Until now, Jin Songwon’s sword had never wavered once, but it trembled faintly. Barely perceptible, yet undeniably there.

‘I’m going to lose.’

Only those unwavering can truly embody the sword of Diancang. But he had cast aside his own firmness.

What he now wielded with his hands was not the sword of Diancang. From the moment he bowed his head before Jang Ilso, he was left with nothing but an empty shell.

Paaat.

Jin Songwon’s blade sliced a long gash across Chung Myung’s face as it swept past.

‘Master.’

There was no regret. Even if he were placed in the same situation again, he would have made the same choice.

At last, Chung Myung’s sword flew in.

There was not the slightest tremor.

The unwavering resolve Jin Songwon had so long yearned for was right there. No matter how shaken or wounded he might have been, there was a tenacity in that sword that never ceased to move forward.

Jin Songwon closed his eyes. It was all over now.

But the sound that reached his ears at that moment was not that of his neck being severed, but the piercing clash of metal striking against metal.

Kaang!

Jin Songwon opened his eyes again. The back of a stranger came into his view.

No matter how generously you tried to phrase it, you couldn’t call his statue impressive.

Shoulders trembling pathetically, heaving raggedly, a blood-soaked man gasping for breath.

Jin Songwon stared at him, dumbfounded. A man who had forced his way through this horrifying battlefield to stand before him.

“Stop.”

Baek Cheon. He had saved Jin Songwon.

“Now, stop this foolish nonsense.”

With a sword aimed at his fellow disciple.

“What do you feel, seeing with your own eyes the results you created with your own hands?” – this was the phrase that pissed me off the most. What exactly did Chung Myung create? It was Diancang who didn’t answer Beop Jong’s call to come to Yangtze. It was Gupailbang who let Ilso thrive in Guizhou. WTH did Chung Myung create?……

Cowards and Weaklings almost always find something to blame for their own choices.

He turned away from battle…but others must strictly adhere to their duty of saving his pathetic ass…

If 10 great sects had won that war against jang ilso, they should still had executed all higher ups of Dianchang

”now, stop with this foolish nonsense” look l genuinely like Baek cheon right, loved the guy since the beginning. And l still do but what he said right here annoyed me. Like this is war, those are just simply the cruelty and consequences war has. It’s kill or be killed, nothing more and nothing less. Not to mention what Jin songwoo said throughout the chapter, like wdym cm is at fault for making them this way. Like okay let’s ignore how you kept avoiding the amount of chances you have had for the ENTIRE novel, let’s ignore how you didn’t do anything at all through the ENTIRE EVENTS, let’s ignore that the choice you made was YOUR responsibility and decision, NOT cm. But perhaps in furthers chapters something might be done about Jin songwoo healing Baek cheon if he doesn’t end up dying!! Glad the guy is alive!! 🙏

Exactly. Like l can see why he did it but it doesn’t take away the fact that he didn’t even experience or did he actually learn anything about them, like your just putting more pressure on cm by saving the guy, and as cruel as it might sound. Jin songwoo did this to himself AND the sect, that’s the choice he made and what he should keep and carry, placing the blame on cm is completely out of line. Though l can see way considering his emotions and emotional start are very unstable as of the moment.

    Thank you Ellie 🙂

Like you said Ellie, blaming the victim rather than villain 🙃 I guess its final ramblings of passing soul.

People might hate me saying this but sometimes I genuinely hate dramatic flair Baek Cheon add. Like why would you save that man? How did you come up with that judgement like stop this nonsense? What did you experience with them to make you pull that move? Out of pity? They made the same choice every step of the way. If this causes them reconsider their position and turn against Sapa, I feel like that would very poor development and it wouldn’t make sense. He’s gone against CM will and added another variable to already full table. I’m very salty over this 😅 CM will be fuming hopefully

Not sure how to feel about this development. Obviously having Diancang betraying Jang Ilso will help a lot in this situation, also we have seen that Diancang might have some techniques that can help Baek Cheon get better, BUT I just can’t agree with Diancang changing their mentality after all of this. I might sound really negative, but if at the end they are going to change, they should’ve changed before screwing everything. It feels like the next couple of chapters Baek Cheon will use the “talk no jutsu” and honestly feels like an easy way out of this dilemma.

not sure what exactly happened. I susped missing words? Or “the” isn’t meant to be here?

Thanks god BC came on time. CM doesn’t need more blood on his hands, especially of someone he feels responsible for. It would just worsen his inner demon. TT^TT In a way we could say BC saved the life of the guy that saved him recently, but I mostly think he saved CM.

thank you for the translation. I’m a new reader here, this is my first comment because I really like reading discussions from readers especially in the latest chapters here.when I first read Jin Songwon scene I really sympathized with him until I couldn’t read the chapter properly, because I felt so insulted imagining the scene of him bowing his head to Jang Ilso and barking and how Gakmyung also called him a “dog”.

At first I sympathized with him, but when I read the last chapters with what he said to CM I was really angry, I read the comments on Naver and the readers also really hated what Jin Songwon said to CM 😭🔥🔥

Then I realized again, how hurt CM was and how he suffered so much because the world never sided with him. During his argument with JS, I realized that the sentence he said to CM actually described CM painful condition that he never said to anyone.

But then again, how do they understand, how everyone knows how the world tears CM’ soul apart by continuing to make him feel guilty and regret his choices, even he cannot say what JS could say to him.

How everyone always blames CM and takes out their anger on CM even though CM was not the one responsible from the start, when he never blamed them and only blamed his incompetence. this really makes me cry 😭😭😭 why is biga so cruel to CM, he was originally a very brilliant protagonist but why does biga always make him fall into the mud alone. He gave everything to others and never complained.

Now I’m really scared of CM’s fight scene against the clown JIS. The cover shows CM kneeling and JIS holding his head, I’m thinking again about the worst thing about the fight will be won by Sapa or CM will kneel to beg JIS to spare them or maybe according to JIS plan to make CM helpless and make him a hunting dog under Sapa for the future against the demon sect. Just thinking about it makes me angry and want to curse JIS over and over again.

Please anyone give peace to CM’s grandfather, even if it’s the demon sect that interferes in the battle or even the heavenly devil, just let CM restore his body to normal. I really hope Biga gives victory to him in this war. If JIS can’t be killed, how about destroying his dantian and severing his veins so he can’t fight anymore. Isn’t Sapa only following him because he’s strong, if he was weak then they would have voluntarily torn JIS apart themselves 🤣🔥🔥

at this point I just hope that Biga doesn’t take the same path like kim dokja author from omniscient reader’s. It just inhumanity to make chungmyung losing everything and sacrificing himself again.Maybe it would be masterpiece but you know taking a different path to depict how Chung Myung’s character as a human being can ultimately hold on to his steadfastness in times of despair is a much more admirable point rather than self-sacrifice.

note:sorry I have a lot of mistake to reply. I just dont get used to it 🙏🏻

because they think of CM as an omnipotent god who should save them, they never think that CM is an ordinary human being, just like the Backcheon case where ordinary guys and some people from Hwasan, instead blamed CM for not being able to cure Baekcheon, because they believed that CM would definitely be able to

fuck, i just want cm, just one time, don’t care about anyone else

The inner demon was already inside him. Ever since he abandoned what should have never been abandoned.

Is the intention of the devil in him is when CM ultimately sacrifices Diancang to save Tang and that is an action that should “not” be done. The time he finally chose to sacrifice Diancang, at that moment the devil in him appeared, that is when the evil thoughts by comparing saving the tang family is the best choice with the sacrifice of death diancang when all lives are equal and can never be compared.

While this isn’t CM fault this is just one of the 2 choices he can make, he knows that what he chooses also doesn’t mean he’s “right” therefore CM also says that one’s heart cannot become steel because no matter how human decides something,  human is still a human who has feelings and that goes for CM too.

I think BC appearance here will be a turning point. Right now CM is so desperate to be able to step forward by hurting himself again, defeating jin songwon/Diancang with his hands means giving a scratch to CM  soul and letting his hands “bleed” again.

I think BC appearance was meant to stop CM do that, he seemed to be trying to keep CM from making choices that will hurt him more . Anyway if we notice in this chapter, CM heart is so tender he knows there is no way out for Jin Songwon and giving death is one of the liberation that CM can give, because even CM is not given a chance to be able to get a little liberation called death and has to sail in the sea of regret alone.

I’m really curious how Biga can make it out of Jin Songwon and fight JIS. SASUK PLEASE SAVE PUR PRECIOUS SAJAE🔥🔥

But isn’t he aware? He is aware, catastropically aware…so aware that he is sick of it.

But can he say it? No of course not, its going to be an excuse for you, a meaningless excuse…but is it?

Yours, it was an excuse, it were your actions to ignore every sect in ruin that led you to be alone, to be in the same ruin. You didn’t answer to join shaolin, you didn’t join when tang was attacked, when namgung was ruined.

His every slash, it is a cry of pain, he is drowning in tears of despair, your resentment, his own resentment, it threatens to choke him at every second.

But can he say it? Will someone listen? Will someone understand? No

‘He lacked power. He lacked the ability to carry out his will. He even lacked the fierce resolve to protect what he had so proudly proclaimed.’

Proudly proclaimed? It was proud but more than that it was desperate. It was a desperate attempt to save what he couldn’t last time. It was fierce, fiercely full of grief, regret, desperation.

sasuk saved jin songwon 😭…all my hopes are on baek cheon now.

Chung myung said that he could kneel before ilso to save even one more hwasan disciple.

jin songwon did the same…he kneeled to save this kids, killing jin songwon is like killing a part of chung myung…chung myung himself would be hurt more if he stained his hands with jin songwon’s blood, even more so because he himself feels like he caused diancang’s downfall.

Chung myung is going to snap…I’m here for it…I hope he screams 😭.And kill that manipulative clown bastard too.

I will pray for the talk no jutsu’s to work. There is this feeling I have that it won’t be enough but I don’t like this feeling so let’s pretend it’s not here! Talk no Jutsu gain on efficiency the most it’s used on the same target and BC already had several tries with JS so it’s time for a critical hit!!!!🙏🙏🙏🌸

BAEK CHEON 😭 CHUNG MYUNG 😭 The boys are back!!!

Tysm for the chapter! 🧡 so many comments already!

Another chapter that I really enjoyed. We finally got more insight from CM’s perspective on what’s going inside him… It seemed to me that the disorder he is experiencing in his body it’s not just some kind of mental issue (like PTSD) but his body (probably due to his pure Qi?) is actually reacting to Magyo’s existence… So maybe his symptoms getting worse is a sign that Magyo is getting stronger? Am I reading too much into it? I can’t help it 🤭

Maybe all those times CM said/thought he could “feel” Magyo existence, it wasn’t just a metaphor (as in “since I was reborn, he may have come to life too”), his Qi was actually feeling it? Idk.

Baek Cheon 😭 He is the exact opposite from Jin Songwon… When BC became weak and had to face his choice, he didn’t let his weakness deviate his principles not one bit. He took the extremely hard path, similar to what CM has been doing since his previous life 😭. His sword is firm. And he probably wants to protect CM as always 😭. To unburden him just a little. Maybe the new Tang Bo isn’t Gunak, the new Tang Bo may be Baek Cheon 😭

One thing I don’t understand though, what is this path CM is thinking about? “The path he should have never taken” and “So he abandoned it [the path]”. What path? Did he consciously go into Qi deviation to get stronger and now he’s being possessed by Magyo because of that? I thought CM just had a poor mental health and somehow that affected his Qi/body… but now I’m confused.

i think it was explained pretty straightforwardly this time? about cm’s condition. the inner demon was planted inside of him since long ago, by the means of his own actions and thoughts. but it was aggravated by cm feeling the return of the heavenly demon.
EUGHGH. baek cheon… i have faith in bc. he is the embodiment of the world “resolve” unlike jin songwon rn.
about your question, i will do a break dwon for you by the paragraphs:

A hollow laugh escaped him. Its deep self-mockery overlapped with a certain laugh Chung Myung once knew.
[a hollow laugh escaped jin songwon and it’s sound overlapped with cm’s own laugh/state of mind in the past]
Chung Myung closed his eyes for a moment.
‘In the end, it’s no different.’
      [they are in similar positions]
In the end, he, too, is just weak. He was forced onto a path he couldn’t choose.
[as cm thinks he was weak in his past life(morally) so is songwon]
And so, he ended up choosing a path he should never have taken.
[so as songwon was weak, he was forced to take a path he shouldn’t have taken]
At the end of that path, there must be some reason why he has to endure this kind of humiliation.
[so songwon is suffering all that humiliation for what?]
What could Chung Myung possibly do for someone like that?
[what could cm possibly do for someone who was weak and was forced to choose a path he shouldn’t have taken]
      hope this was helpful!

at this point I just hope that Biga doesn’t take the same path like kim dokja author from omniscient reader’s. It just inhumanity to make chungmyung losing everything and sacrificing himself again.

Maybe it would be masterpiece but you know taking a different path to depict how Chung Myung’s character as a human being can ultimately hold on to his steadfastness in times of despair is a much more admirable point rather than self-sacrifice.

I won’t lie, I was about to curse Biga, their parents, grandparents, and their entire family.

But I got some good news, so even though the novel is a mess and makes me feel uneasy, I’ll trust that Biga won’t pull the “I used to be like you” card. So, let’s keep reading.

    Have a great week, everyone!

“I really don’t understand. Why Chung Myung has to save you. All of these things were your choices alone and the choices of the other sects. So are you saying he should abandon his friend to save someone he doesn’t even know?”

I really like the work, but the author is appealing to several of the MC’s difficulties, this is practically a cliché, he fills the MC with everything that is most absurd possible to make his life difficult and turn it into hell, if I wanted to see some shit where the MC and his friends get it bad, I would watch the crap Akame ga Kill, I’m almost dropping it, this psychological “difficulty” that the MC goes through doesn’t even make sense, he practically has to be nerfed as much as possible, because the enemy trash would be defeated easily.

I feel like planting the sword in the minds of these people so that they understand that Chung Myung doesn’t owe anyone anything. I almost exploded that they have no brains that he is twenty years old when he has to endure your nonsense
